Meet Curt W. Kolvet

Christian, Father, Husband, Author, Teacher, Veteran (U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel), President and Founder of Veteran and Military Christian Outreach(VMCO)

Curt Kolvet originally comes from Minden, Nevada, a small town in Northern Nevada just a few miles away from the very majestic Lake Tahoe which is nestled in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. He grew up with his older sister and younger brother playing sports, riding horses, and serving as an altar boy at his local Catholic Church. Moving to Reno at the age of twelve he eventually attended and graduated from Bishop Mangue Catholic Highschool in 1997. There he was a Captain on the football, baseball, and debate teams where he garnered All-State honors as a high school quarterback, league MVP for baseball. His high school accolades are pinnacled by a membership on Team USA for the Goodwill Baseball Series, traveling to play baseball in Beijing, China in 1995 at the age of sixteen. During his summers up until eventually leaving for the Army, Curt would help on his extended family’s cattle ranches, participate in archeological digs with his Mom and Step-Dad in Cyprus and Jordan, as well as travel and attend multiple professional sporting events along side his Father and Brother.

In May of 2001 Curt graduated from the University of Nevada with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and minor in Philosophy; while concurrently receiving his commission in the U.S. Army entering active duty as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps. By way of Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, Curt arrived at his 1st Duty Station in Wuerzburg, Germany. Later in 2004 through 2005 He deployed with the 1st Infantry Division, DISCOM, 701st MSB to Tikrit, Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom II, where he would be promoted to the rank of Captain. While deployed Curt’s oldest child Thomas was born, first getting to see him when he was 5 weeks old upon return home to Germany during two weeks R&R. Throughout the deployment Curt served in multiple logistical leadership roles, and was the Commander on over 20 Combat Logistics Patrol missions. He was awarded a Combat Action Badge for an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on his vehicle during one such mission. During the deployment Curt experienced almost weekly rocket or mortar attacks, an anti-vehicle mine attack, and two IEDs.

Shortly after his deployment Curt’s active-duty service obligation was complete, and he returned home to Reno, NV where he began a career with Dell Computers working Operations and Project management at the Company’s West Coast Fulfillment Center. It was during this time that Curt was blessed with a second child, his daughter Cora. After 5 years, Curt felt called back to service and decided to leave Dell and again return to the military fulltime; this time as an Active Duty Guardsman in the Nevada Army National Guard. In 2012 as a Company Commander, he led the 593rd MTC on a standalone company deployment to conduct a security force mission in Kabul, Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom 12-13. During this mission Curt and his Company were responsible for the safe transportation of civilian or military personnel and supplies in and around the RC-Capital region, as well as assume Quick Reaction Force responsibilities, utilizing various Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) gun trucks, and other up armored vehicles. During this deployment Curt and his Company were exposed to a car bomb attack, rocket attacks, and riots.

Following his return from Afghanistan, Curt was promoted to Major in the Logistics Corps, and subsequently later promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 2020. During his service as a field grade officer Curt twice served as a Battalion Commander of the 757th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion giving him over 80 months of total command time during his Army career. He would serve in a multitude of staff positions in between commands such as Battalion Executive Officer, Brigade Operations Officer, State Training Officer, Adjunct Professor for Military Science at the University of Nevada, Director of Logistics, Deputy Director of Human Resources and Manpower, and Joint Plans Director. Also during this time like so many others on the home-front Curt was awarded the Armed Forces Service Medal for his contributions to the COVID-19 response from 2021-2023. Curt also pursued his professional and educational development Graduating from the Command and General Staff Officer’s Course at the Command and General Staff College in Ft. Levenworth, KS, and earned his Master of Science in Human Relations and Business from Amberton Univeristy in 2016.

Curt has decided to conclude his career in 2026 and retire from military service, grateful for for the opportunity to serve his country as well as serve besides the great men, women, and families of multiple services and different nations over the years. The constant regardless of his military status is Curt’s faith. Curt has been a lifelong Christian believer and follower, beginning with his Dad’s determination that he and his siblings be brought up in the Catholic Church during their younger years. Curt received his baptism and 1st Communion in the Church yet would later decide to follow Christ in a more non-denominational setting where he has belonged to the same church in Reno, since 2011. Having always been dedicated to Christ, Curt welcomes the opportunity post active-duty to further grow in his service of the Lord though study, writing, evangelism, and volunteer work.

Curt is supported by his beautiful wife Morgan and their four kids, Thomas, Cora, Peyton, and Averee
